I Made Ada is a renowned Balinese sculptor, celebrated for his intricate carvings of Garuda Wisnu, which have gained international recognition. His journey in the world of carving began in 1966, a passion inherited from his father and grandfather, who were also skilled artisans. Despite the hardships following the eruption of Mount Agung in 1963, I Made Ada remained in Bali, dedicating himself to preserving and evolving the island’s rich cultural heritage through his art.
Deeply rooted in Balinese traditions and the teachings of Hinduism, I Made Ada’s work is infused with theological significance. His Garuda Wisnu sculptures are not only a reflection of his artistic mastery but also carry a profound philosophy — the Garuda symbolizes the savior of all nature, alongside Wisnu, the preserver of the universe. In 2002, his gallery was officially recognized as a museum by President Megawati Soekarnoputri, further cementing his legacy as a maestro of Balinese art. Today, he continues to pass on his knowledge, even opening a carving school for international tourists in 2000, ensuring that the beauty of Balinese woodcarving lives on for generations to come.
A variety of small wood carving decorations are available, priced between IDR 300,000 and IDR 3,000,000. Each carving reflects the beauty of traditional Indonesian art, making them perfect as souvenirs or personal collections.
